Foster Army Animal Rescue and Pet Rescue Thrift Store Celebrate 2nd Anniversary with Poker Chip Sale, Raffles to Help Homeless Animals

RIVERSIDE, CA, May 22, 2017 – Foster Army Animal Rescue (FAAR) and the organization’s Pet Rescue Thrift Store are celebrating their two-year anniversary of saving the lives of homeless at-risk pets with a four-day Poker Chip Sale event, May 25 – 28, 2017, at the Thrift Store located at 3564 Central Ave., Riverside.

During the four days of the sale, customers will draw a poker chip giving them immediate discounts of 20%, 30% or more off their purchases.  On Sunday visitors to the store also will be entered into raffle drawings for $25 gift cards to the store and enjoy complementary pastries and soft drinks.  Proceeds from store sales help support FAAR’s work.

Foster Army Animal Rescue, an all-volunteer, foster-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, in two years has saved the lives of nearly 500 of the most vulnerable animals while striving to help Riverside become a no-kill community.  FAAR pulls mainly from animal control facilities treatable small animals – dogs, cats, rabbits and others – that are ill or injured, kittens and puppies under eight weeks of age, seniors, and others often overlooked by adopters.

FAAR’s foster volunteers care for and socialize the animals in their homes while they receive any needed medical/behavioral treatment and until they are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, and adopted into forever homes.

One such rescue is Gwen, a Chihuahua, who at 3-months-old and 2 lbs. was trampled by a horse as she ran, unsupervised, around a ranch.  Her owners decided to have her euthanized because of her crushed leg even though she could still lead a happy and normal life with three limbs.  Fortunately, a caring vet called FAAR.

Without hesitation, FAAR stepped in, made arrangements for the surgery, and placed Gwen in a foster home to recuperate.  Today, her name is Frieda, and she’s living a good life in Beverly Hills with her human and animal family.
